Interview Date: 10 July 2014
Interview Time: 8:00 AM
Reached Embassy : Around 7:30 AM
Entered at the embassy around 8:15 am. After finishing my finger print while waiting for my call i was a bit nervous as i saw many peoples got rejected. Few has documentation problems and others has problem of defining their logic regarding financial statement or sponsor or university selection. on the other hand, saw very few people came across with happy smiley face. However, when i got called on counter 8, i saw a white young american guy (Tom Cruise look with age around 33-35, i guess) with smile in his face. Apparently, i should confess my interview only took less than a minute and thus my interview experience wont be very much helpful for others, i assume.
Me: Hello, sir.
VO : Hello (with smile in his face), Please pass your DS-160, I-20 and confirmation page.
Me: passed the papers and saw the VO looking to my I-20 and after 10 seconds he looked at me.
VO: So, what are the courses you’ve taken?
Me: (got confused with his question, afraid inside but asked him gently) Sorry Sir, i didn’t understand question.
VO: What are the pre-requisite courses you’ve taken for your post graduation program?
Me: Sorry sir, i didn’t understand you question first. Actually sir, as the university requirement, i have taken GRE & IELTS.
VO: Ok (with smile). Why did you choose this particular university?
Me: (Explained with my research philosophy)
VO: What is your father do?
Me: He is a property consultant (told with smile)
VO And, what is that?
Me: Actually sir, he is a real estate businessman. (Again expressed with smile)
VO: Thank you sir. I am approving your visa (Put a read seal on my DS-160 form). Please collect your visa on 15th July from Saimon Center.

Profile: 3.56 GRE 304(V-141 Q-163 AW-3.0) IELTS 7(W-7 R 7.5 S 7 L 7) No publication; Communicated with professor and got scholarship after admission.
Just to let you know I am going to post graduate in Computer Science. Surprisingly VO didn’t check my Financial Statements or any other documents. My advice to you all, be there with your positive attitude and present yourself with confidence look. Try to listen every question very carefully and answer with confidence along with smiley face. Do not interrupt VO while he is questioning you (saw few were doing so and VO got angry). Eye contact is most important while you communicating with VO. Lastly, don’t forget to pray to almighty and rest, depends on your luck.

My Visa interview experience :
Interview Date: 07 July 2014
Entry Time: 8:00 AM
Reached Embassy: around 7:20 AM
I entered the embassy around 8.20 a.m. It was my first US Visa interview and I was awaited for the further instruction at the waiting room. They took my fingerprints around 9:30 a.m. I was listening a sentence over and over again and that is ”Sorry Sir, I couldn’t approve your Visa at this time”. After hearing this repeatedly what I feel inside couldn’t express in words but I was trying to say myself “ Stay Calm & don’t be nervous, everything will be fine “ I was instructed to go at Counter 08 and found a smart, young & handsome American Visa officer …..
Me: Good Morning Sir, Good Day
VO: Good Moring. Show me your passport, DS-160 and I-20
Me: Gave my passport, DS-160 and I-20.
VO: Looking at my documents and typing the keyboard. So, why are you planning to go US?
Me: To study Masters in Business Administration and Management majoring in Supply Chain & Logistics Management at Albany State University
VO: How do you know this University?
Me: Told
VO: Why you choose this University?
Me: Told.
VO: Did you get any fund? (VO repeatedly typed in key board & checked in Screen)
Me: Told & gave my Fellowship paper, Internship paperr & my Deans recommendation letter. I got International Student Fellowship (50% Funding) and Internship offer from the University ($11 USD per hour, 19 hours a week)
VO: Who will bear your remaining tuition?
Me: My parents & my elder brother
VO: What does your Father do?
Me: Told
VO: What is your Father’s monthly income?
Me: Told. (I told the annual income then VO converted it monthly)
VO: Congratulations. I am approving your Visa & collect it from Simon Center on 10th July (After typing 2-3 mins in key board then suddenly VO told)
Me: At first I couldn’t believe what he is saying then told…, Thank you very much Sir & Have a nice day.
I was really surprised because VO didn’t want to check my Bank Statements. My suggestion would be, try to give every answer smiley face with full of confidence & maintain eye contact with VO all the time during the interview. Give positive answers & technically avoid/hide negative answers and present yourself with positive approach. To me Dress code is also very important with decent look, formal pant & formal shirt would be fine. I found few people wearing Blazer in this hot & humid weather. Give utmost effort to gather all the supporting documents from your very best. If possible before facing your Visa interview try to manage an appointment with education advisor of American Center/ EMK center. I hope it will work better & give an edge to your destination. You may go to the Files section of HigherStudyAbroad and print out the visa questions and answers for mock practice. It helped me a lot. I found my motivation from this famous statement & remember,
Confidence & Hard work is the best medicine to kill the disease called failure, it will make you a successful person – APJ Abdul Kalam

Experience of my today’s Visa Interview- I: Good morning. Interviewer: Good morning. How are you? I: I am fine, thanks. Interviewer: Give your documents. (He didn’t name any particular document. However, I gave him DS confirmation page and I-20) Interviewer: You got scholarship in Bowling Green! Congratulation (smiling). I: Thanks you. (I was a member of American Centre and I had a folder of “EducationUSA”. He noticed that folder) Interviewer: Give me the “EducationUSA” file. (I gave it with all other documents. He unfolded and folded it again. Then returned to me. Then typed something on his PC for few seconds. Then he indicated me to stand in front of a vertical scale attached on the wall beside the door. It looks like a scale to measure one’s height. But I am not quite sure whether its purpose was actually measuring one’s height or anything else. Then I came back to the interviewer.) after some moments… Interviewer: Do you have any law violation record in USA? I: No, I did not go to USA ever. (Then he kept my passport, sealed my DS confirmation page and gave it to me.) I: Take your passport from Simon Centre on 23rd June. Interviewer: Thank you.

My VIsa Officer was the Tom Cruise looking one. I was much tensed because most of the VISAs were getting rejected and I am a self funded PhD applicant so YES! I was WORRIED like hell and had already started making plans for German VISA appointment scheduled on 8th July,2014.
US VISA is like jotish er kache bhaggo porikhha type. So jarai baire porte chan , I would recommend them to apply for other country (like Germany) as your back up plan.
Meyerao AP(Administrative Processing) khai , ajke ami dekhlam.. they just don’t say it like guys on Higher study abroad. AP manei NAME CHECK NA. If they keep your financial documents along with passport then they are going to check your financial document (Saving account is best to show, BE AWARE of huge transactions before VISA. ). Shomoy niye taka dhukaben. Olpo olpo kore. Amake eigula keo bolar chhilo na. Manusher bhul theke shekha. SHONCHOYPOTRO theke 10 haat dure thakben. They don’t accept it. Consult WITH EDUCATION USA before applying to any university.

Pause 5 secs…
